Issued (0030 UTC) 830am PhT 070915
_________________________________
Linfa (Bagyong Egay) has intensified overnight and is now a Category 1 Typhoon. The storm's center was last located approximately 60km south of Shantou or about 260km east of Hong Kong. Maximum sustained winds are now at 120kph with gusts of up to 150kph. Typhoon Linfa is currently moving west northwestward at 15kph.
The National Meteorological Center of China has issued a Yellow Typhoon Warning for the possible impacts of Linfa to Fujian and Guangdong Provinces. Meanwhile, Hong Kong Observatory has issued Signal Force No. 1 for the expected impacts from Linfa. Please heed the warnings of your local officials for the latest warnings and bulletins.
IR Image from NRLMRY
Latest satellite image shows Linfa has developed a small, but rugged, eye surrounded by strong convective activity. Microwave analysis (not shown here) reveals a well-developed eyewall with deep banding developing. Thankfully, Linfa is now nearing land and should no longer intensify significantly.
Radar Image from CMA
Latest radar image out of Guangdong Province shows the well-defined eyewall of Linfa characterized by bands of light to moderate, and sometimes, heavy rains. Some places have already received well upwards of 50mm of rainfall along with winds of up to 100kph. Stormy conditions will continue across the region, especially along the coastal areas, through this evening. Parts of Hong Kong will also start to see stormy conditions from Linfa beginning tonight and will last through tomorrow.

Tropical Storm Linfa (Bagyong Egay) has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility and is now moving towards Southern China. The storm center was last located approximately 420km northwest of Laoag City or about 460km east southeast of Hong Kong. Maximum sustained winds are at 85kph with gusts of up to 110kph. TS Linfa is currently moving north northwestward at 10kph.
PAGASA has now dropped all Public Storm Warning Signals for the Philippines.
IR Image from NRLMRY
Latest satellite image shows the core of Linfa continuing to linger across the South China Sea. The system slightly intensified overnight with strong convection firing within the low-level center. This intensification is expected to be brief, however, as dry air and increasing vertical wind shear will lead to weakening before the storm makes landfall.
Tropical Storm Linfa is no longer forecast to move into Taiwan. Instead, the storm is now forecast to make landfall in Guangdong Province in Southern China early tomorrow morning (Thursday). Widespread rains and strong winds should be expected along the coast. Even Hong Kong may see scattered rain showers due to Linfa by Thursday and Friday.
Despite Linfa (Egay) moving away from the Philippines, the system is still enhancing the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) which will continue bringing scattered rain showers across the country. It may even get worse as the approaching Typhoon Chan-Hom (Bagyong Falcon) moves across the Philippine Sea. With that said, rainy weather may dominate parts of Luzon and Visayas over the next few days.
We'll have a separate update for Typhoon Chan-Hom (Falcon) later this morning.

Tropical Storm Linfa (Bagyong Egay) continues to linger across the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea) this morning. The storm was last located approximately 240km northwest of Laoag or about 580km south southwest of Taipei. Maximum sustained winds remain at 75kph with gusts of up to 95kph. TS Linfa is moving northward at 10kph.
As of 5am this morning, PAGASA has issued a Public Storm Warning Signal #1 for Ilocos Norte, Batanes, Babuyan and Calayan Group of Islands, Northwest of Cagayan, and Apayao.
IR Image from NRLMRY
Latest satellite image show Tropical Storm Linfa meandering across the South China Sea. Convective activity remains rather strong this morning, despite being slightly displaced southwest of the low-level circulation center. Moderate easterly wind shear is hindering Linfa from intensifying but the storm is still managing to enhance light to moderate rains across the western coast of Luzon.
Tropical Storm Linfa will continue moving slowly to the north and will be moving very near Southern Taiwan tomorrow. Light to moderate rains are possible in the island. Increasingly unfavorable conditions will lead to further weakening and we expect Linfa to become a Tropical Depression by Thursday as it makes landfall in Guangdong Province in China.

Tropical Storm Linfa (Bagyong Egay) continues to move slowly across the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea) this morning. The storm center was last located approximately 150km northwest of Laoag City or about 500km north northwest of Manila. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 75kph with gusts of up to 95kph. TS Linfa is currently moving northward at 10kph.
As of 5am this morning, PAGASA has issued Public Storm Warning Signal #2 for Batanes, Cagayan, Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and Abra. Signal #1 is in effect for Pangasinan, Isabela, Benguet, La Union, Mt. Province, and Ifugao.
VIS Image from NRLMRY
Latest satellite image shows the low-level circulation center of TS Linfa has been left fully exposed after crossing the island of Luzon last night. Much of the convection is displaced west of the center. Nevertheless, we are still seeing sporadic light to moderate rains associated with the southerly inflow of Linfa.
Provinces in Northern Luzon, particularly in Pangasinan, La Union, and Ilocos, received as much as 150mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours causing widespread flooding and landslides. Unfortunately, wet weather will continue for the region, albeit at a lower intensity than yesterday.
Tropical Storm Linfa (Bagyong Egay) will continue moving slowly to the north and will be heading towards Taiwan. We are expecting the system to make landfall in the island sometime Thursday evening or Friday morning.

Tropical Storm Linfa (Egay) Update #2
Issued (01 UTC) 9am PhT 070315
____________________________
Like our FACEBOOK PAGE for the latest updates on this storm!
Tropical Depression 10W has intensified into Tropical Storm Linfa (Bagyong Egay) this morning. The storm's center of circulation was last located approximately 620km east northeast of Manila. Maximum sustained winds are now at 65kph with gusts of up to 85kph. TS Linfa is currently moving west northwestward at 15kph.
As of 5am this morning, PAGASA has issued Public Storm Warning Signal #1 for Isabela and Cagayan. The said provinces are forecast to experience winds of up to 60kph in the next 36 hours.
IR Image from NRLMRY
Latest satellite image shows convection remaining strong in the immediate vicinity of Linfa's circulation. However, moderate easterly shear is slowing down the intensification trend. Furthermore, much of the convective activity is actually being displaced west of the circulation center due to the said wind shear. This has led to widespread rains moving into parts of the Bicol and Visayas Regions. Some places have already seen rainfall amounts of 30 to 50mm with additional 50 to as much as 100mm possible in the next 24 hours.
Forecast Track (NOT OFFICIAL!)
Our preliminary forecast track for Tropical Storm Linfa (Egay) shows a continued west northwesterly movement over the next few days. The storm is forecast to move close to the Northern Luzon area by tomorrow and will likely bring widespread rains across the region this weekend. Batanes Islands will also feel the impacts of Linfa as it moves to the area by Sunday and into Monday as a possible Category 1 Typhoon.
The overall track for Linfa (Egay) will hinge on the approaching Tropical Storm Chan-Hom as the latter is forecast to influence the movement of Linfa by early next week. Either way, we advise residents in the region, especially in the Northern Luzon area to continue monitoring the developments for Linfa and should be vigilant in case the storm is forecast to bring direct impacts.
We'll have a separate update for Tropical Storm Chan-Hom later today.
