_____________________________

Pabuk continues to intensify this morning and is now a Category 2 Typhoon. The eye was last located approximately 800km south of Tokyo, Japan. Maximum sustained winds are now up to 155kph with gusts of up to 195kph. Typhoon Pabuk is moving northward at 20kph.

Latest satellite image shows the eye of Pabuk remaining strong with good convective activity wrapping around the center. Poleward outflow remains excellent as well and that is offsetting the effects of cooler sea surface temperatures in the region.

Typhoon Pabuk is forecast to continue moving northeastward and should avoid Mainland Japan. No stormy conditions expected from this system. However, coastal areas in Honshu should still be wary for high waves over the next few days. Pabuk should begin to weaken as well by later tonight as wind shear increases slightly along with cooler sea surface temperatures.

We'll have another update later today.
