Tropical Storm Haikui remains over Eastern China and continues to bring widespread rains in the region. The storm was last located approximately 430km west of Shanghai. Maximum sustained winds are at 65kph with gusts of up to 85kph. Haikui is currently moving westward at 10kph.
China Meteorological Administration continues to issue Yellow Warning for rains of up to 200mm as well as Blue Warning for winds of up to 100kph. Residents across Anhui, Hebei, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Shanhai need to continue closely monitoring the developments regarding Haikui!
IR Image from NRLMRY
Latest satellite image shows Haikui remains pretty much organized over Anhui. Convective bands continue to surround the core. The system is also starting to interact with an approaching trough of low pressure from the northwest. This front is beginning to enhance convective activity, especially across the northeastern side of Haikui. More rains will fall for many areas here, unfortunately.
Radar from CMA
Latest composite image from Eastern China confirms the increase of rains particularly across Jiangsu Province. Moderate rains are also falling across Anhui, Northern Jiangxi, and Hebei Provinces. Rainfall amounts of up to 200mm are still possible in the next 2 days, on top of the 100 to 200mm of rain reported in many stations today. In fact, some areas have already breached the 500mm rainfall mark accumulating over 3 days. Current forecasts still show Haikui eventually turning to the northeast but not without stalling over Eastern China for 2 days. These could possibly bring catastrophic rainfall across China so please continue monitoring the news. By Saturday, Haikui is forecast to weaken to a depression and eventually dissipate. Its remnants will be picked up by the frontal system and will move to the northeast. Korean Peninsula and even Western Japan should expect rains from Haikui by the middle of next week.
