Tropical Update

The JTWC has issued a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert (TCFA) indicating a HIGH chance of development for Invest 90W. This low pressure was last located approximately 390km southwest of Pohnpei or about 1,480km southeast of Guam. An ASCAT and OSCAT pass last night indicted winds of 30 to 40kph near the center. Furthermore, microwave images depict tightening bands trying to wrap around the center.

The system continues to consolidate and tighten with flaring convection at and around the center of circulation. Wind shear remains light and sea surface temperatures support cyclone development. Computer models are also showing formation although 90W's formation is faster than what is being modeled.

We'll have another update later this afternoon.
