Tropical Storm Nock-Ten Update #19

Tropical Storm Nock-Ten is now moving across the Gulf of Tonkin after making landfall in Hainan yesterday. It was last located approximately 300km east southeast of Hanoi, Vietnam. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 85kph gusting to 110kph. Nock-Ten is moving west northwestward at 20kph.

Haikou Airport in Hainan is reporting lower wind speeds now, as well as increasing pressure which means the worst is over for the province as Nock-Ten pulls away. Its next target is Vietnam. Latest radar image from Phu Lien shows bands of moderate rain just offshore. These outer and inner rain bands will begin to affect Northeastern Vietnam within the next one to two hours.

We are forecasting Nock-Ten to make landfall later this afternoon or tonight (Philippine Time), approximately 250km south of Hanoi. It will then continue moving westward across Vietnam, weakening to a Tropical Depression early tomorrow before dissipating near Laos by Sunday night/Monday (Philippine Time).
