Tropical Storm Muifa (Kabayan) Update #8

Tropical Storm Muifa (Bagyong Kabayan) continues to strengthen as it moves north across the Philippine Sea. Muifa was last located approximately 980km east northeast of Virac with maximum sustained winds of up to 100kph gusting to 130kph. The storm is moving northward at 20kph.

Recent microwave images show improved banding, including the northern half of the center. Wind shear continues to decrease as 96W, east of Mufia, begins to weaken as well. Muifa will continue strengthening, perhaps becoming a typhoon as early as tonight.

Computer models still show big differences with regard to track. CMC showing a track towards Kyushu while both the GFS and NOGAPS showing Muifa hitting the Ryukyus. ECMWF has shifted a little bit to the north now tracking Muifa across Okinawa and into Eastern China, passing north of Taiwan).
