TS Katring (Chaba) Update #9

Tropical Storm Katring (Chaba) continues to intensify as it moves across the Philippine Sea. Maximum sustained winds are now at 85kph with gusts reaching up to 100kph. Katring is moving north northwestward at 10kph.

The forecast has not changed. TS Katring will continue moving northward and may have a brief period of rapid intensification within the next two to three days. Katring is forecast to peak at around category 2 typhoon strength. It will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility late this week. Katring (Chaba) is forecast to pass closely to the east of Okinawa this weekend. Due to increasing vertical wind shear and cooler waters, Chaba should weaken as it moves towards Southern Japan by early next week.
