The latest system in our region has been upgraded to a tropical storm. Tropical Storm Fanapi (Inday) was last located 550km east of Basco, Batanes. Maximum sustained winds are at 65kph. Fanapi has slowed considerably, moving to the northwest at around 5kph.
It will continue drifting to the northwest, then turn to the north northeast before turning again to the west. It will also continue strengthening, attaining typhoon status perhaps on Friday. Fanapi is not expected to hit the Philippines although Batanes group of islands may feel some effects later this week.
