Text Update

Tropical Storm Sonamu (Bagyong Auring) continues to move across the South China Sea today. The storm was last located approximately 580km southeast of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Maximum sustained winds have slightly increased to 85kph with occasional gusts of up to 110kph. TS Sonamu is moving west southwestward at 20kph.

Sonamu continues to battle strong southeasterly wind shear leaving the low-level center partially exposed. Nevertheless, strong convective with cold cloud tops remain near the center of the storm. Some of the clouds are also reaching Vietnam and could bring light rains tonight and into tomorrow. The proximity of Sonamu's circulation could also bring some high waves along the Vietnamese Coast.

Forecast Track (NOT OFFICIAL!)

TS Sonamu is forecast to continue moving west southwestward. It could undergo one more round of intensification before beginning to weaken by tomorrow (Sunday) or by Monday. Latest forecast tracks also continue to put Sonamu towards the Malay Peninsula either by Tuesday or by Wednesday. However, by that time, we expect it to become a weak Tropical Depression and should only bring light to moderate rains in the region.

We'll have another update on the Tropics tomorrow.
