Tropical Depression 92W (Bagyong Auring) has been upgraded by JMA to Tropical Storm Sonamu. TS Sonamu/Auring is now moving away from Palawan; it was last located approximately 260km southwest of Puerto Princesa City. Maximum sustained winds are now up to 65kph with gusts of up to 85kph. TS Sonamu is moving westward at 35kph.

As of 5am this morning, PAGASA has raised Public Storm Warning Signal #2 for Southern Palawan; Signal #1 is in effect for the Rest of Palawan.

Latest satellite image shows the storm moving away from Palawan. The bulk of the convection seems to be suffering from moderate southeasterly wind shear. Nevertheless, strong winds, rough waves, and occasionally heavy rain will continue for Southern Palawan throughout this morning.

TS Sonamu will continue moving westward and could exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility later this afternoon. It might intensify just a little bit as it traverses the South China Sea this weekend. Then by either Sunday or Monday, Sonamu might move just south of Vietnam and could affect the southern half of the country.

We'll have another update later today.
