Tropical Storm Saola Update #16

Saola (Bagyong Gener) has moved back to the open sea just east of Taiwan. It, however, has suffered severely after making landfall last night and has weakened back to a Tropical Storm. TS Saola was last located approximately 80km southeast of Taipei or about 380km north of Basco, Batanes. Maximum sustained winds are now down to 100kph with gusts of up to 130kph. Saola is currently moving north northwestward at 10kph.

As of 11am today, PAGASA has kept Public Storm Warning Signal #1 for Batanes Group of Islands. Taiwan still has Typhoon Warning and JMA Storm and High Waves Warning.

CWB Radar

TS Saola has moved back to the waters although the bulk of the convection remains across the Taiwan. Rainfall reports so far in the country range from 100 to 200mm with some stations reporting more than 300mm especially in Hualien and Yilan Counties. Wind reports, on the other hand, have decreased as Saola weakens although sustained winds of up to 80kph and occasional gusts of up to 130kph are still being observed across the area.
