Latest reports out of Iwo To indicate winds of around 100kph and gusts of up to 130kph. Heavy rain have also been reported in the airport for the past two hours. We expect conditions here to worsen with stormy conditions staying for at least 12 hours. Chichi-Jima, which is a few hundred kilometers north of Iwo To, should expect deteriorating conditions today. We are forecasting Sanvu to pass within 150km of the said island later tonight and into early tomorrow (Sunday).

The increase in wind shear and decrease in sea surface temperatures should help Sanvu weaken today although we expect it to remain a typhoon for at least until tonight. It'll continue moving northeastward, eventually becoming an extra-tropical cyclone as early as Sunday.

Next update will be this afternoon.
