Typhoon Sonca Update #7

Typhoon Sonca has weakened into a Category 1 storm as it moves away from Japan. It was last located approximately 670km east northeast of Tokyo. Sonca is moving northeastward at 35kph. Maximum sustained winds are now down to 150kph gusting to 185kph.

Latest VIS image shows that the eye has become cloud-filled now. Earlier, Sonca managed to complete an eyewall replacement cycle.

Sonca is now moving into an area of cooler waters and increasing upper-level winds. It will continue weakening and should become a tropical storm tomorrow. It will then start transitioning into an extra-tropical cyclone as it moves across the North Pacific.
