Tropical Depression Kulap Update #5

Kulap weakens as it moves just north of Amami Oshima. It is now down to a Tropical Depression with maximum sustained winds of 55kph gusting to 75kph. Kulap was last located approximately 380km north northeast of Okinawa. It is moving north northwestward at 25kph.

This was the last Visible Image taken an hour ago showing the exposed circulation moving through the Ryukyu Islands. There really is nothing left with this system aside from winds and rough surf.

VIS from NRLMRY

Stations in Amami and Kagoshima are only reporting winds of 15 to 30kph. JMA picking up some rain bands, particularly to the south, although they are not expected to bring any heavy rain--just some thunderstorms and/or rain showers of maybe less than 100mm in 24 hours.

TD Kulap will continue moving northwestward towards the East China Sea. It could approach Jeju Island by Sunday or it could even dissipate before that area.

Invest 91W

Invest 91W continue to slowly develop just north of the Marianas. IR image shows convective activity with a broad circulation. Models are also in good agreement in developing 91W. It could approach the Ryukyus by the middle of next week.

Another update tomorrow.
