Tropical Storm Muifa (Kabayan) Update #6

Tropical Storm Muifa (Bagyong Kabayan) continues to strengthen as it moves across the open waters of the Philippine Sea. As of 7am today, Muifa was located approximately 890km east of Catarman, Samar. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 85kph gusting to 110kph. Muifa has also begun to move west northwestward at a speed of 20kph.

Computer models remain in disagreement with regards to the track. The consensus is still showing an abrupt turn to the north moving toward the Ryukyus of Japan. The ECMWF, however, is still showing that movement towards Okinawa and then a southwestward dip towards Taiwan by late next week. Most models though, are showing Muifa completely avoiding the Philippines.

It is expected that Muifa will continue its intensification, perhaps becoming a typhoon as early as Saturday night.

We should have a better handling on the track later today so please stay tuned for our post at 3pm as well as our Video Updates for both Nock-Ten and Muifa.
