Typhoon Megi Update #26

Typhoon Megi has finally exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It was last located 370km northwest of Laoag City or 450km southeast of Hong Kong. Megi is moving northward at 10kph. Current maximum sustained winds remain at 185kph.

Typhoon Megi is forecast to gradually weaken as it moves north eventually becoming a weak category 1 typhoon before making landfall in Eastern Guangdong (Southern China) this weekend; 120km northeast of Shantou/100km southwest of Xiamen.

Meanwhile, two tropical disturbances are being monitored out in the Pacific. One is near the Marianas Islands while the other is west of Wake Island. Both have a good chance of becoming either a tropical depression or a tropical storm within the next 12-24hours. Neither of the systems, however, is forecast to affect the Philippines in the short term.
