Typhoon Fanapi (Inday) Update #12

Typhoon Fanapi continues to batter Central Taiwan. Latest observations from Taiwan indicate very strong sustained winds, as well as gusts, although they are a little bit lower than what we've seen earlier. We now suspect that Typhoon Fanapi has weakened into a category 2 storm (next JTWC update is in 430pm PST).

Based on radar and JMA updates, Fanapi is moving southwestward at 30kph. It is forecast to resume westward movement and pass north of Kaohsiung. It will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (and Taiwan) late tonight as a Category 1 typhoon. Fanapi will then make another landfall near Shantou in Eastern China on Monday as either a strong tropical storm or a minimal typhoon.
