TY Kompasu Update #07

Typhoon Kompasu continues to rapidly intensify as the eye moves ever closer to the northeast of Okinawa. Maximum sustained winds are currently at 175kph with gusts of up to 215kph. Typhoon force winds extend to about 50km from the center. Near the eye, rainfall rates of as much as 80mm/hr should be expected. Kompasu should leave the area in 3-6 hours.

Kompasu is forecast to continue intensfiying, becoming a major Category-3 Typhoon later tonight. It should continue moving the northwest, then recurving into the Korean Peninsula early Thursday. Kompasu is forecast to make landfall as a Category-2 near the North-South border, moving very closely through Seoul. It is expected to undergo extra tropical transition on Friday.
