____________________________

A low pressure area was spotted developing across the East China Sea. This LPA, called Invest 96W, was last located approximately 250km northeast of Taipei, Taiwan or about 360km west southwest of Okinawa, Japan. Winds around the center are estimated to be between 30 and 50kph.

Latest satellite image shows good convection emanating near the low-level center. This LPA is currently located within the tail-end of a mid-latitude trough. The low-level center is somewhat elongated and the system as a whole isn't really purely tropical in nature.

Nevertheless, computer models are forecasting some development in the coming days especially as poleward outflow improves. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center has issued a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert (TCFA) for Invest 96W for a HIGH chance of development. Meanwhile, the Japan Meteorological Agency is already classifying 96W as a Tropical Depression.

Invest 96W is forecast to continue moving northeastward and could bring showers across Ryukyu Islands by tomorrow and eventually into Mainland Japan.

A Tropical Storm with an international name of Yutu has developed in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. This system is near the International Date Line and is not forecast to affect any land area.

We'll have another update tomorrow.
