Tropical Update

A Near-Equatorial Trough is currently bringing widespread rains across Mindanao. A few days ago, it was the tail-end of the cold front that brought rains in the same region. Many areas saw up to 100mm of rain causing flooding and landslides especially across Davao Regions which were hit by Typhoon Bopha late last year.

Unfortunately, more rains are forecast for Mindanao over the next two days. The trough has surged as the easterlies collide with the winds from the north spawning widespread precipitation in the area.

2-Day Rainfall Forecast (NOT OFFICIAL!)

As a result of the continuous rains, expect up to 100 to even 150mm of rain across parts of Surigao, Davao, Agusan, and Compostela Provinces. Flooding and landslides are highly likely in these said areas so please make sure to coordinate with your local officials. Parts of Visayas (especially the Central and Eastern Sections) may also see light to moderate rains over the next two days but the amounts will be lighter compared to Mindanao.

Temperatures will be still be seasonably cold but won't be as low as the temps we've experienced last week. Some light rains may also impact parts of Luzon including Baguio and Manila.

Visayas and Mindanao will have a rainy pattern this week with high chances of rain for Cebu and Davao. Rain is forecast to slowly taper off by Friday.

We'll have another update on Friday, January 25. Stay safe!
