Tropical Depression Sarika Update #5

Sarika has weakened to a tropical depression as it moves closer to making landfall in Southeastern China. It was last located approximately 260km east of Hong Kong or about 80km south of Shantou in Guangdong, China. TD Sarika is moving northward at 25kph.

Sustained winds have decreased to 55kph. Moderate wind shear is shearing the convection and all that remains is an exposed circulation center. We no longer expect Sarika to become a tropical storm again due to the proximity to land.

TD Sarika is forecast to make landfall late this morning. It will then quickly dissipate as it moves farther inland.
