Typhoon Juan (Megi) Update #10

Typhoon Juan (International name Typhoon Megi) continues to move towards the Philippines. It was last located approximately 1300km east northeast of Manila. Typhoon Juan is currently packing maximum sustained winds of 165kph with gusts reaching up to 205kph. The JTWC lowered the intensities slightly. Typhoon Juan is encountering some dry air on the western periphery which hindered its intensification in the past 12hours. Typhoon Juan is expected to strengthen again, however.

Based on latest satellite images, Typhoon Juan (Megi) is now beginning to turn towards the west. It is forecast to attain Category 3 status tonight. Juan will continue intensifying, becoming Category 4 on Sunday. Landfall is forecast to occur 60km southeast of Aparri, Cagayan on Monday afternoon. We have shifted the track to the south upon landfall based on computer models and some upper level environment information. It will significantly weaken as it moves across the mountainous terrain in North Luzon. Juan will pass at or near Vigan as a Category 2 typhoon. It will exit the island of Luzon by Tuesday morning.
