Tropical Storm Chaba Update #19

Chaba continues to rapidly weaken as it moves northeast. It is now downgraded to a Tropical Storm; maximum winds are now at 110kph with gusts of up to 140kph. Tropical Storm Chaba was last located approximately 450km southwest of Tokyo, Japan. Heavy rain continue to fall in Southern Honshu; some places already reporting rainfall amounts of up to 150mm. Winds are also beginning to pound the region. Latest METAR report from Narita Airport indicates sustained winds of up to 30kph with wind gusts reaching 55kph. The conditions are expected to worsen as Chaba moves closer to the area. It will not make landfall but will pass just to the south.

Tropical Storm Chaba is forecast to continue moving northeastward, becoming an extra tropical cyclone in 12-24 hours.
