Tropical Storm Malakas is now 550km south of Iwo To, Japan. Maximum sustained winds remain around 80kph. Malakas is moving to the west northwest at 10kph. Right now, strong vertical wind shear is hampering the strengthening of Malakas. The conditions, however, is forecast to improve, allowing the storm to strengthen. TS Malakas is expected to reach typhoon status by Friday. Overall forecast track has not changed.
