TS Chanthu has strengthened further prompting Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) to upgrade the storm into Typhoon Status. JTWC, on the other hand, continues to classify Chanthu as a Tropical Storm. Nevertheless, the system continues to gain strength as it nears landfall. Sustained winds have increased to 110kph with gusts of 140kph. Chanthu is moving NW at 10kph and is expected to make landfall north northeast of Hainan Thursday evening (PST).
