Tropical Depression 23W (Ramon) Update #1 w/ Video

Tropical Depression 23W (Bagyong Ramon) formed this morning west of Palau. It is now located approximately 670km east northeast of Davao City. Maximum sustained winds are at 55kph gusting to 80kph. 23W is moving westward at 20kph.

As of 5pm today, PAGASA has now raised Signal #1 for Surigao Del Norte, Surigao Del Sur, Siargao Island, and Dinagat Group of Islands.

It is forecast to continue moving westward under the influence of a strong Subtropical Ridge. It will continue intensifying and could become a Tropical Storm tomorrow. Typhoon-strength is unlikely at the moment due to proximity to land and somewhat strong wind shear near Mindanao. It could make landfall in Surigao Del Norte by tomorrow evening or very early Wednesday morning. 23W will then continue moving west northwestward across the Visayas Islands, remaining as a weak cyclone throughout.
