Tropical Depression Leepi Update #9

Issued (00 UTC) 8am PhT 062113
___________________________

Leepi has rapidly deteriorated overnight and is now a Tropical Depression. TD Leepi was last located approximately 300km west northwest of Kagoshima (Kyushu Island). Maximum sustained winds are now down to 55kph with gusts of up to 75kph. TD Leepi is moving northeastward at 25kph.

Latest satellite image shows Leepi lacking any strong convection leaving the low-level center somewhat exposed. Nevertheless, satellite analysis still shows a well-defined circulation with winds of 40 to 50kph. Due to the lack of any strong convection, there isn't much rain affecting Kyushu right now.

Tropical Depression Leepi is forecast to move towards Kyushu Island later today bringing gusty winds and light rains. It should also begin to interact with a frontal boundary (which is bringing widespread rains across Japan right now) and become extra-tropical by Saturday.

We'll have another update tomorrow morning.
