Tropical Storm Guchol Update #18

Tropical Storm Guchol has now exited Honshu and is moving into the North Pacific. It has weakened considerably as it moved over land yesterday. Maximum sustained winds are now down to 85kph with gusts of up to 110kph. Guchol was last located approximately 270km east northeast of Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture, it is currently moving northeastward at 55kph.

Guchol is now quickly becoming extra-tropical as it gets embedded in the baroclinic zone. In fact, JTWC has already given their final warning for Guchol; it is likely that JMA will give their final warning as well later this morning. For the most part, heavy rains that brought more than 100mm in many places in Japan yesterday has ended. However, gusty winds are still being reported in Southern Hokkaido as well as places in the eastern part of Tohoku Region in Honshu. High waves are still present as well along the eastern portions of Hokkaido and Honshu.

We'll have another update later this afternoon.
