Typhoon Nesat (Pedring) Update #5

Typhoon Nesat (Bagyong Pedring) has slowed down while maintaining typhoon intensity over the Philippine Sea. It was last located approximately 380km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or about 730km east of Manila. Maximum sustained winds are still at 130kph gusting to 155kph. Nesat is moving westward at 15kph.

As of 11pm tonight, PAGASA has issued Public Signal Warning #2 for Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur. Signal #1 is hoisted for the provinces of Albay, Burias Island, Sorsogon, Quezon, Polilio Island, Aurora, and Isabela.

IR image shows improving organization with deep convective activity over the center. Dry air have hampered Nesat's development over the past 12 hours although it looks like that is beginning to abate. We have yet to see an eye signature on either the IR or microwave imagery. You can also see in this image the convection beginning to move into the Bicol Region. Expect rainfall amounts of as high as 200mm for tonight.
