Typhoon Megi Update #29

Typhoon Megi has weakened to a category 1 typhoon; it is now hours away from making landfall in China. Maximum sustained winds are down to 150kph with gusts reaching up to 185kph. Megi is moving northward at 10kph. Rain bands have begun to affect the coastlines of Southeastern China. Parts of Western Taiwan are actually reporting rainfall amounts of 50-100mm; heavy rain in that country tiriggered widespread landslides and rockslides.

The radar image from the Central Weather Bureau (Taiwan) still shows an eye although the coverage of moderate to heavy rain have shrunk somewhat.

Typhoon Megi is forecast to quickly dissipate after landfall; and should become a tropical depression by tomorrow.
